Economic uncertainty is testing the foundations of global stability. From conflict and severe climate events to forced displacement, the markers economists once used to measure risk are no longer reliable. According to IMF research, today’s polycrisis requires new tools of resilience; tools that strengthen not only markets but also people.
For the 123 million forcibly displaced worldwide, resilience starts with recognition. Without formal identity credentials, individuals cannot access banking, jobs, healthcare, or protection. This erasure erodes dignity at the human level and undermines host economies at the national level.
This forum, held alongside the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings, will explore how universal, human-centric digital identity systems can restore agency to individuals while bolstering economic resilience for countries and communities. Experts from finance, technology, and civil society will chart a future where identity is the foundation for inclusive growth and stability.
