Regulating at the Speed of Innovation

From finance and consumer goods to healthcare and clean energy, innovation is transforming industries at a pace that regulators struggle to match. To achieve UN SDG 9’s call to foster resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive industrialization, and drive innovation, one challenge remains clear: regulation must safeguard public interest and trust without becoming a brake on progress. Outdated frameworks can delay life-changing solutions to the world’s greatest challenges and deepen inequality in access. This forum, convened on the sidelines of UNGA 80, will explore the dynamic between bold innovation and responsible governance. Drawing on lessons from multiple sectors, we will examine how science-based, risk-proportionate regulation can protect the public, promote understanding and trust, and accelerate access to safe and effective innovations worldwide.
